Tatyana Roytshteyn

Studio Piano Teacher

Biography

Tatyana Roytshteyn began her piano studies at the age of six in Odessa, Ukraine. Upon immigrating to the U.S. she received her BM in piano performance from Florida Atlantic University where she studied with Artist in Residence Judith Burganger.​

Ms. Roytshteyn holds a MM in piano performance from Indiana University, Bloomington where she studied with Dr. Karen Shaw.

​​

As a chamber musician, Ms. Roytshteyn has coached with Menahem Pressler, Eli Eban, David Salness, Mayumi Seiler and Lisa-Beth Lambert.

​​

In 2006, she and violinist Serban Petrescu founded the Duo Pogany. Together they have performed throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware as well as at the Toronto Music Festival.

Ms. Roytshteyn has been teaching for over 25 years. Her students regularly participate in competitions and festivals and have consistently earned awards and superior ratings.

​​

In 2007 Ms. Roytshteyn’s interest in helping music students succeed led her to develop a workshop for parents. She has since presented it for the Main Line Music Teachers Association as well as at various music schools and youth orchestras.

​

In 2018, she was a guest lecturer for graduate piano pedagogy students at the University of Idaho.

​​

Continuing her research into the neurological basis of learning, in 2019 Ms. Roytshteyn authored an article for the Main Line Music Teachers Association on the neurological basis for metacognition and tip of tongue states and their application for music study. You can read the article here.

In 2023 and 2024 Ms. Roytshteyn along with Dr. Eneida Larti presented their research on self-control in music practice at the Kansas and Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association state conferences. The presentation centered on combining both psychological and neurological factors in a novel application of the Marshmallow Test concept to pedagogy. You can watch the presentation here.
